Other Mouse Metabolic Phenotyping Centers
Overview
The Mouse Metabolic Phenotyping Center (MMPC) is a NIDDK-sponsored consortium
designed to provide the scientific community with standardized, high
quality phenotyping services for mouse models relating to diabetes and
its complications. The program is composed of four centers, each
containing cores of leading investigators in diabetic mouse phenotyping.
Mission
The development of transgenic technology and gene targeting protocols
has resulted in numerous mouse lines with specific phenotypes and well-defined
DNA structural changes. Candidate genes for diabetes, obesity
and other disorders of metabolism have been identified and transgenic
mice have been generated using this technology. Our mission
is to advance research in the area of diabetes by providing novel experimental
tools to the scientific community for phenotyping mouse transgenic models
of diabetes and related disorders.
Goals
- broaden the scope of techniques available to investigators;
- standardize key methodologies;
- expedite the completion of research; and
- compile a database for mouse models of diabetes.
